The MD/MBA program recognizes that there is an increasing demand in the healthcare sector for physicians with management skills and expertise. This is a five-year program in which the first year is spent in the Desautels Faculty of Management completing the MBA core as well as building a solid background in healthcare management. Then, the students will begin their medical studies, which will be integrated with additional elective courses in management. This will provide the opportunity to train well-rounded physician-managers who can eventually pursue careers in a wide range of healthcare areas, from the smallest clinic to the largest tertiary health care cility; from research laboratory to university or hospital medical departments, as well as the private sector within pharma/biotechnology firms and the health insurance sector, among others.
The MBA portion of the program is 51 credits. There are no concentrations required, however the option exists for a student to take all 5 elective courses in a concentration (either Finance, Marketing, Global Leadership or Innovation and Technology Management).

Business Admin: An on-the-job experience in a corporation or organization supervised by an academic culty member.

Business Admin: Overview and study of the Quebec, Canadian and international health care systems within the Canadian context. Brief historical overview and analysis of its major elements: Quebec Ministry of Social Afires, Regional Health Councils, Social Service Centres, hospitals, etc. Critical issues examined: planning health care needs and resources, financing health care, labour relations, patterns of power and assessing quality of care.

Business Admin: Course is divided into hospital goals and priorities; the basic elements and functioning of administrative and medical organization structure; the complexity of hospital management; assessment of overall as well as departmental performance. Course material, approach and assignments are strongly practice-oriented.

Business Admin: An integrative capstone experience for students in the joint MD-MBA degree program, this course reviews leadership roles at the intersection of medicine and management through real life projects at healthcare cilities in the Montreal area.

Management Core: This course aims to provide students a comprehensive understanding of the process of internationalization as well as managing an enterprise/organization in an international setting. Students will participate in an organized study trip outside of Canada, to a city with significant international business.

Remaining courses are chosen from 500 and 600 level courses offered by the Desautels Faculty of Management, and approved by the MD/MBA program director.
Note: All students will take Base Camp (Statistics, Math for Finance or Financial Accounting) in August, prior to the commencement of the MBA program.
Applicants must have received or be within one year of receiving an undergraduate degree at a recognized college or university. An undergraduate degree consists of a three-year program leading to a bachelors degree following a diploma of collegial studies in Qubec (or equivalent), or a four-year degree leading to a bachelors degree following the completion of high school. Successful candidates must hold this bachelors degree when they register. Students must also submit supporting documentation including a personal statement describing their interest in the program and career aspirations, as well as additional referee evaluations attesting to their scholastic aptitude and program potential. A Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) is required for international applicants or those who have obtained their undergraduate degree from an international institution. The GMAT is not required, but is recommended.
Applications for the MD-MBA program must be submitted no later than November 15.
Following the evaluation of the complete application package, selected candidates are invited to interviews, after which final admissions decisions are made.
